Facing an expedited schedule, The Beaver Excavating Company utilized mine grouting to stabilize the project site for the $92.9 million, Phase III portion of the U.S. Route 33 Nelsonville Bypass.
One of the largest mine remediation projects in the country, the Nelsonville Bypass was constructed atop former coal mines and required Beaver’s ingenuity and experience to ensure that efficiency and quality were maintained throughout the process of stabilizing the mine voids. As the Ohio Department of Transportation project’s prime contractor, Beaver Excavating self-performed mass excavation, embankment, bridge construction, drainage and mine remediation work.
Despite below-ground variables, Beaver kept the project timeline on track while maximizing cost savings through its value engineering practices.
